Consumer speed is undoubtedly increasing and there is an inherent need for an integrated logistical infrastructure that is able to facilitate this increase in volume. Such is the case with Dubai Logistics City. It attempts to synthesize multiple scales and modes of the transportation of goods in order to increase efficiency in speed and costs. DLC could possibly become the most integrated logistical platform which would include all modes of transportation with the world’s largest airport under construction. DWC-Al Maktoum International Airport will become the busiest importer and exporter of air freight upon its completion. DWC planners suggest it will handle just over 12 million tonnes of air cargo annually, making it at nearly 4 times larger than Fed-Ex’s Memphis hub and 6 times larger than UPS Worldport in Louisville, KY. DLC will also house light manufacturing adjacent to logistical spaces. The scale of this project is monumentous and with it comes its own Staff Village set in landscaped surroundings with sports and leisure facilities, restaurants, shops and service centers.
