As the Panama Canal Expansion Project will complete the first of two new locks to come in 2012 and second in 2025 we can expect an influx of volume in New York City. With the population expected to rise by 1.2 Million at the same this time we are predicting physical market flooding resulting in secondary infrastructures collapsing under new pressures (ie Trash and Waste Removal) Places like the Fresh Kills Project on Staten Island and Semakau Landfill in Singapore offer unique precedents with regard to land growth. Perhaps these strategies offer us insight into new ways of growing and utilizing land for public and infrastructural programs.
